A Spooooooky Spiel of the Dead Recap
Our first bonspiel of the year is in the books with the annual Spiel of the Dead. Congratulations to all of our event winners! Photos are available on the club Facebook page.
A Event: Old Frankenstein - Chaska
B Event: Stolt - St. Paul/Four Seasons/Brainerd
C Event: Ostrowski - St. Paul/Chaska/Four Seasons/Fargo
D Event: The High Five - Brainerd
What I'm sure you're all asking is, who won the costume contest? This year featured the first ever TIE in the costume contest results! Our co-winners were the Stonecutters with their Beetlejuice costume, and Team Meat Sweats with their working Meat Raffle costume. Thanks to everyone who participated in the costume contest this year, and start thinking of your entries for next year!

Thanks to Steph and David Heiden for their work organizing the Spiel of the Dead over the past few years. This was their final year organizing and we are looking for a team to take over into the future. Ice Maintenance Reminders
Now that we're a few weeks into the season, our ice crew has a few reminders for everyone to help us keep our ice in great condition for the entire season: https://frogtowncurling.org/index.php/our-club/club-news/329-ice-maintenance-reminders
1. Please bring clean shoes!
2. Keep elbows, knees, and hands off the ice!
3. If you're in a late league, please remember to nip your sheet before playing! (if you don't know how, please watch this video and ask someone in your league to walk you through it)
4. Clean your gripper regularly with soap and water and replace it at least once a year!
5. Don't let rocks hit the hacks!
Practice Ice
Want to improve your game with some practice time? Keep an eye on our Practice Ice Calendar.
If you (like your newsletter writer) can never find this link, you have a couple options:
- You can add this calendar to your personal Google Calendar and turn on notifications to be the first to know when ice times are posted.
- Bookmark the site and/or add the site to your phone's home screen as an app
- Check the pinned posts section of the General channel on the club Discord.
Practice Ice is most commonly available when there are group reservations for learn to curls. Groups vary in size, so there will be a limited number of sheets available. All posted practice ice time is free for members and available first come first serve. Sheets cannot be reserved for practice time.
Since we're working with limited sheets for practice availability, members are expected to share sheets when necessary. Especially during busy practice ice times, please pair up, triple up, or more to make sure everyone who wants to practice can. If you see someone looking for a sheet, please invite them to join yours if you have space.
Not sure what to work on? There's a practice box above the coat rack that has drills, cones, and other practice tools to help you out.
What's the best way to get practice ice? Sign up to teach a Learn to Curl and stick around for a bit after your teaching duties are finished. Email Carrie at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to get on the teaching mailing list.

Upcoming Bonspiels
November, December, and January are a busy time for bonspiels at The Fun Club. If you're not curling, come on down to join the party (or better yet, volunteer) and help show our guests some Frogtown hospitality!
Pride Spiel
Frogtown is excited to host our 4th annual Pride Spiel -- the largest Pride Spiel in the United States! 40 teams from 22 curling clubs spread out over 8 states and one province will be competing at Frogtown from November 13-15 to celebrate 2SLGBTQIA+ people and their allies in the sport of curling.
To learn more about what makes this colorful weekend of Pride and Positivity so awesome, check out this profile from last fall in Lavender Magazine!
Frogtown Five
Frogtown is also excited to host our 3rd annual 5U bonspiel! 30 teams from 23 clubs in 12 states (including two from Frogtown) will be competing in a pool-play style tournament from November 20-22 to qualifier for the 2027 USA Curling 5U National Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Come pack the Sheet E and Sheet Eh lounges throughout the weekend! Draws start Friday at 8am with quarterfinals on Saturday at 7:30pm, semifinals on Sunday at 8:30am, and the final on Sunday at 11:30am. This will be a weekend of high-level 5U curling!
Aurora Spiel
Frogtown's Aurora Spiel is our annual women's bonspiel and will be December 4-6. This weekend is a fun-filled oportunity to meet other women in the sport and watch some great women's curling! Join us for lots of fun, a fantastic atmosphere, and specialty cocktails!
Goodwill Spiel
The 76th* annual Goodwill Bonspiel will be at the St. Paul Curling Club on December 5th and 6th. This men's bonspiel is a USA vs. Canada showdown and is open to curlers from around the United States. If you're interested or would like more information, please reach out to Jim McMann.
Big Spiel
The Big Spiel is back for its 12th rendition and due to high demand has expanded to 128 teams for the 2027 version. This bonspiel takes place at all of the metro area curling clubs from January 11-14, 2027, and has a four-game minimum. Find more information and register at the TCCA website. As of Monday, there were only 9 spots left!
